How come DIY work takes a long time?

So all week you have been working then you come home to a partner saying work around the house needs to be done right? Well now (6 months down the line) you have actually come to replacing those bedside tables and awful white wardrobes with brand new bedroom furniture or furniture for another room.

New furniture means only one thing, the room itself will need decorating. The only room in which this can be a good thing is going to be the front room as you now have the excuse of decorating to get a brand new HD T.V.

But the problem is, decorating rarely just takes a weekend to complete. You will then be forced out to choose the new furniture, the new gadgets and the new colours for the room, be warned if you are male you will not have a say in this. You will then need to sit down and prepare for the decoration itself, moving things about and clearing the room out so nothing remains inside.

If you are stripping paint or wallpaper this could take an entire weekend on its own so now you are starting to see that the one weekend chosen for decorating is going to take up more than those 24 hours you are awake during the two days that you have off over the weekend period. Make sure not to decorate on a bank holiday. This is just a recipe for disaster as more DIY accidents happen on a bank holiday than any other day in the year within the UK and I am sure that the USA is not much different in this.

Of course if you are thinking about moving home or have just moved into a new home then taking a week or so off work could be a good idea just so you can get to it in your own time without having to rush an entire weekend on the area in question. Chances are if you are in this boat you have several rooms to decorate and if this is the case a prolonged period of time of work is certainly a good idea just so your house doesnt look like a wrecking ground for a long time period.
